The Seaford Community Concert Association (SCCA) and the Seaford School District have been partners in the arts for seventy-five seasons. Formed in 1949 to bring nationally touring artists to western Sussex county, SCCA has hosted more than 290 performances, all of them at Seaford High School (old and new). For the last few decades, the concert association has also provided outreach programs for Seaford Students. On October 11, the outreach was in the form of a master class for the Seaford Middle School Drama Club.
The program was led by Irish singer and star of many musicals in London’s West End David Shannon and Broadway music director Adam Wiggins. The 90-minute session included Q&A, vocal exercises, and mock auditions. The program gave the students insights into the lives of real Broadway performers. Several students were so taken with the performers that they attended the performance that evening. One parent said, “I had to bring her; it’s all she’s talked about since she got home.”
The students were outstanding representatives of their school and community! Mr. Shannon and Mr. Wiggins were so impressed that they asked to be kept apprised of the club’s progress as they prepare for their production of Disney’s “Moana” in the new year. It is likely that they’ll get a video pep talk from Mr. Shannon on opening night!
The Seaford Community Concert Association thanks the Seaford School District for their support over seven and-a-half decades and they especially thank Mr. Jim Cave, SMS principal, and teachers Danielle Koppie and Chad McKenrick of the SMS Drama Club for their enthusiastic participation in this program.
